Pinstone hosts local MP to discuss key priorities

B Corp accredited PR and marketing specialist agency Pinstone welcomed Sir Bill Wiggin, MP for North Herefordshire, for a roundtable discussion to discuss the big issues facing the farming, food and environmental sectors.

Catherine Linch, managing director and founder of Pinstone chaired the meeting.

“As part of our B Corp focus, and with a team that’s rooted in food and farming, we felt it important to engage our local MP on the pressing issues in the sector, and ensure government is championing areas that matter to us, our clients and communities.

Key priorities discussed, ranged from honesty in food labelling, and the need for food security, through to hedgerows and discussion around ensuring the new Environmental Land Management Scheme is fit for purpose. Green finance and the impact of trade deals were debated.

Sir Bill Wiggin was keen to highlight his farming roots and express his commitment to advance discussions in Parliament where he is lobbying to ensure the Sustainable Farming Incentive works for farmers, not just civil servants. He is also working on key local issues such as the River Wye and in channelling national money to local projects.

“We need more MPs to advocate for removing regulatory obstacles that currently hinder the industry. Meanwhile, we’re looking for support for the uptake and advancement of innovation and technology, to increase widescale adoption at farm level,” says Catherine.

“That’s essential to businesses supplying to the rural sector to thrive. Our team is incredibly passionate about food, farming and environmental interests being promoted to the highest levels of government.”

Catherine adds: “We are grateful for our MP displaying a willingness to engage directly with those at the forefront of farming and food production. Today’s conversation was valuable as it addressed the core concerns of rural communities and the broader direction of policy for UK agriculture.”

For Pinstone, as a B Corp accredited business, there is a clear agency commitment to delivering high standards of social and environmental performance.

“But we’re also ambitious to use communications as a force for good and advocate for the interests of a sustainable food and farming supply chain. This often takes shape by working collaboratively with policymakers to foster a sustainable and thriving future for UK agriculture and the environment.”
